Food is the fuel that powers the body.  So, if you want your body running  smoothly, use the best kind of fuel!  Eating healthy meals and snacks gives  your body energy for the day. Check out  some of the ideas below for giving your  body great fuel in the morning, noon,  and night.

Snack on vegetables like bell pepper strips and broccoli with a low-fat or fat-free ranch dip. Try baked tortilla chips with black bean and corn salsa. Stash bags of dried fruit at your desk for a convenient snack. Keep a bowl of fruit on your desk or counter. Drink a fruit smoothie made with whole fruit, ice cubes, and low-fat or fat-free yogurt. Top a cup of fat-free or low-fat yogurt with sliced fresh fruit.

For quick and easy snacks, stock up on fresh, dried, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables. Encourage your child to choose his or her own fruit when shopping. Store cleaned, cut-up vegetables in the fridge at eye level and keep a low-fat or fat- free dip on hand. Canned, dried, and frozen fruits and vegetables are also good options. Look for fruit without added sugar or syrups and vegetables without added salt, butter, or cream sauces.

If food is not handled correctly during meal preparation, your family could become sick. Eating spoiled food can make you sick. Food can be spoiled even if it looks and smells all right. Germs cause food to go bad. You can't see, smell, or feel germs. It takes one to three days to get sick from eating spoiled food. If you get sick, get help. Call your doctor or your local health department.

There are four easy ways to keep food from going bad: Clean, Keep apart, Cook and Chill
Clean: Wash hands and counters often. Germs can spread in the kitchen. They can get onto cutting boards, counters, sponges, forks, spoons, and knives.
Here's how to fight germs: Wash your hands with hot, soapy water. Do this before touching food. Do it after using the bathroom, changing diapers, or touching pets. Wash your cutting boards, counters, dishes, forks, spoons, and knives. Use hot, soapy water. Do this after working with each food item.
Use paper towels to clean up kitchen counters and tables. If you use cloth towels, wash them often in the hot cycle of the washing machine or in hot soapy water.
